Medical Education & Research Investment Taskforce
MEDICAL EDUCATION & RESEARCH INVESTMENT TASK FORCE
In my President’s Message last month, I had laid out a vision for this year to focus on education. The Adhoc committee has been established, APPNA MERIT (Medical Education & Research Investment Taskforce), which is having extensive and continued consultations with Vice Chancellors and other stakeholders at King Edward Medical University, University of Health Sciences, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, PMDC, Higher Education Commission, PMA, RMC, DOW Medical University, AIMC, SKMCC, Ministry of Health and National Talent Program. Additional meetings are scheduled with College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan, and other institutions.
Based on their requests APPNA is creating an “APPNA Visiting Faculty for Centers of Excellence and CME” program. I am inviting you to participate in a 2-week or longer teaching/clinical/research assignments at Pakistan’s teaching institutions as part of this APPNA initiative. We are working to make it a part of existing university and government programs so visiting faculty’s travel and lodging expenses will be covered.
APPNA is seeking physicians in all specialty areas who may be interested in participating. If you or someone you know may be interested in participating, please send a brief biosketch, including your weeks of availability and your preferred Pakistani geographical location to one of the following:
Dr. Naheed Usmani, Chair, APPNA MERIT merit@appna.org
Dr Rizwan Naeem, Co-Chair APPNA MERIT merit@appna.org
Executive Director, APPNA merit@appna.org.
I appreciate any new ideas in this regard. We owe it to our mother land where we received almost free education to get where we are today. It is now our moral responsibility to repay. I believe the best way would be by promoting and facilitating education in general and specifically in health sciences.
This group (APPNA MERIT) is focusing on transferring newer technology in health sciences and providing technical support in existing teaching institute. Our strength is in you, our membership who can provide the source for this effort.
Together we deliver.
Nadeem Kazi, MD President APPNA
