APPNA hosted a special community webinar in collaboration with State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Muslim Commercial Bank (MCB) to introduce first ever initiative to allow nonresident Pakistanis to digitally open and operate a banking account from the comfort of their homes and offices aka Roshan Digital Account. Dr Naheed Usmani President APPNA gave opening remarks and welcomed guests . Dr. Reza Baqir who was appointed to this prestigious post in May 2019 following an illustrious 20 years career at IMF and World Bank briefly described the initiative to the audience. Dr. Syed Murtaza, deputy governor who also worked at IMF for 16 years prior to joining SBP gave detailed power point presentation explaining the steps involved in opening such accounts.
Panelists also included Syed Irfan Ali, Executive Director SBP and other senior members of State Bank as well as Chief executives of the 7 top banks of Pakistan. APPNA is thankful to MCB, Chief Executive Mr. Imran Maqbool and GH Retail Banking Mr. Zargham Khan Durrani for helping us organize this very important discourse together with State Bank of Pakistan.
The webinar was very well attended with nearly 400 Zoom participants and thousands of Facebook participants . It received hundreds of questions from attendees some of them were answered by Dr Baqir and his team and rest of the questions will be forwarded to SBP official for written response .
Webinar was attended by all members of EC and Chair BOT of APPNA Dr Asif Rahman . Dr Haroon Durrani Secretary APPNA moderated the webinar and Dr Rizwan Khalid President Elect thanked the participants for their valuable time and promised to have follow up similar webinars.
