Dear All,

APPNA National Health Care Day 2018 was organized nationwide by Chapter presidents and membership at large. All coordinators have done a great job giving back to our communities. I am greatly indebted to all NHCD coordinators’ hard work and participation. Services including flu shots, screening, labs and other festivities nationwide was hallmark of our APPNA organization. We need to continue this enthusiasm in coming years as well regardless who is the president and chair in future.

Thanks to APPNA President, Zafar Iqbal Hamid, MD, all coordinators, Ms. Jennifer Watson, JD and Mr. Nicholas Suh who supported me for the success of this event.

With Regards,

Ehtsham Haq, MD
Chair, APPNA National Health Care Day Committee 2018

APPNA Alabama Chapter kept tradition of National health care day in 2018 as well. Large number of physicians and other volunteers served their communities with highest turn over in Alabama NHCD history around 170 patients for flu shots,  screening, lifesouth blood drive,  labs and other services offered in collaboration with BIS. BIS had arranged fall festival as well for the community.

We had 3 cardiologist, 1 internist and 1 FNP and saw quite a few patients. We used quite a few flu shots.

APPNA Health Fair was a great success. It was organized by Umar Farooq MD who is the councilor for APPNA PUN Delaware Valley chapter. Free flu shots were given and medical screenings were provided free of cost. The event was very well attended and appreciated by the local officials.

We organized a free flu vaccination camp at Worcester Islamic Center, Worcester, MA on October 20th with vaccines received from APPNA. It was a very successful event. We were also joined by Dr. Eric Dickson, President UMass Memorial HealthCare and Congressmen Jim McGovern of Congressional District 2. We still have few vaccines left. We plan on organizing another flu camp very soon. Kindly refer to pictures attached in this email.

This was our 3rd annual health fair. The preparation for this event started about 2 months ago, when we started having our biweekly meetings with the team of volunteers, which included doctors, social workers, community leaders, students and teachers of the local schools and community college, and University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. Local transportation was arranged for the people to attend the health fair. Local pharmacies participated with the free flu shots and their staff. This year we had more than 20 organizations related to healthcare and education who fully participated with their staff and educational material, including Zika virus, STDs education, trauma education, and other social services. We also raised some money through a fundraiser.  We gave about 300 flu shots, more than 100 ultrasounds, and EKGs. Pakistani food was served to more than 300 people, followed by a variety show by the local youth. All in all, this event was a huge success. The local media also covered the event, for which I have attached the link.
